THE Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association wants its members to have full control over the organisation’s direction in the future.
The TFGA held its biennial policy forum in Launceston on Thursday, which was attended by farmers, industry professionals and politicians.
TFGA president Wayne Johnston, who was re-elected to the position, said the organisation had plenty of great ideas on how to maximise its returns for members, but ultimately, they wanted to hear what those on the ground think.
‘‘We want all our members on the ground to come forward and give us direction,’’ he said.
‘‘Tasmania has the best meat, the best vegetables and the best dairy in Australia, and I think our clean, green image is something we can take advantage of.’’
Mr Johnston said he has been happy with the state’s freight equalisation scheme, but admitted there was room for improvement.
The organisation will also look to curb unnecessary spending in the next 24 months, chief executive Peter Skillern said.
The TFGA has gone over budget in recent years.
