FOR FATHER and son farmers Rob and Alexander McRae (pictured) the key issues at this weekend’s state election will be perennial rural concerns such as infrastructure and rural sustainability.
The McRaes, who farm at Wallup, north of Horsham, say freight still makes up a massive portion of the cost of getting grain to port and suggest improvements to the state’s transport network would be a boon to growers across the state.
Rob said making provisions for rural-based shires with low rate bases so farmers were not slugged with excessively high rate bills was also something he hoped would be looked at.
For his part, Alexander said he was interested in initiatives which would assist young people to pursue careers in agriculture.
