THE 13-year-old daughter of new Agriculture Minister Jaala Pulford has died after battling a serious illness.
Sinead Pulford died peacefully in her sleep at 5.15 on Friday morning, a statement from Premier Daniel Andrews said.
"On behalf of the Victorian Government and the Victorian Labor Party, I send my deepest condolences to Jaala Pulford and her family on the loss of their brave young lady, Sinead."
He said the Pulfords gave their hearts to their daughter and were "devoted to her every need and wish".
"Jaala's friends and colleagues across the Labor movement and across the aisles of Parliament give their thoughts and prayers to the Pulford family during this difficult time."
He said the Pulford family wanted to mourn in private and he hoped this was respected.
Mr Andrews will take on Ms Pulford's duties as Agriculture and Regional Development Minister until she is ready to return to work.
Ms Pulford was promoted to the new Andrews ministry last week. She took temporary leave two days later to spend time with her daughter.
The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) sent their condolences to Ms Pulford: "Thoughts with your family," the VFF said.
Staff at Stock & Land also offer their condolences to the Pulford family.
