The second meet up of the Western District Young Farmers Group was a huge success with more than 80 people attending a pre-Sheepvention dinner in Hamilton last Sunday.
In a sign of the times, Andrew Cameron started the group with a Facebook page. His aim is for the group to promote youth in agriculture and agribusiness in the Western District. He plans to have events that help any young people involved, interested or connected to the industry to be able to network, socialise and get informed.

Mr Cameron, who works as a Rural Finance agribusiness relationship assistant at Colac, said he was excited by the group’s growth with the numbers in attendance more than doubling from the about 40 people at the first informal ‘meet and greet’ gathering in Warrnambool in July.
He said he wanted to work with existing groups, such as those centred on particular towns, to be able to host bigger events as an umbrella group.
“We are looking to host functions in various towns in the district which will have a good balance of guest speakers and social/networking benefits, for example a pre-harvest information session,” Mr Cameron said.
“And we might look to have marquees at events like the Dunkeld Races, Warrnambool May Races where people can gather and catch up."
