COMMERCIAL producers assembled from throughout the local Scottsdale area of Tasmania and as far away as Flinders Island, Tas, for the helmsman action held at Quarter-Way Angus on Monday.
Twenty-five of 30 bulls were sold on the day, averaging $4739 – nearly $1000 up on the stud's 2014 average.
The top price of $8000 was paid twice for lots 9 and 10, both sons of Banquet Abode A005.
Lot 9, Quarter-Way Jonathon J93, was purchased by Ian Abraham, Waterhouse, Tas, who said he found the 722-kilogram 20-month-old to be a "nice thick bull" to use over his commercial herd.
Mr Abraham also purchased lot 22, Quarter-Way Judah J106, for $6000.
The buyer of lot 10, Quarter-Way Jorge J97, was Michelle Hirchfield, Hillview Farm, Flinders Island.
Ms Hirchfield said lot 10 was the "pick of the pen" to use over their 230 commercial cows targetting feedlots and the Global Animal Products (GAP) program with Greenham.
"He has the frame, size, figures and growth rate," Ms Hirchfield said.
Lot 10's credentials include +123 for 600-day weight and +2.4 for eye-muscle area.
Quarter-Way stud principal Trevor Hall said that with the breeding objectives of fertility, structure and longevity, he was pleased with the results.
"I'm extremely rapt with how the sale has gone," Mr Hall said.
"There was spirited bidding and competition.
"We have a good following of loyal clients."
Tim Woodham, stud stock co-ordinator for Roberts, said he found the sale to be very good.
"After the success of the mainland calf sales, people have confidence in spending money on bulls," Mr Woodham said.
"The cattle market is only really going one way."
