FARMERS in the Tambo Valley are angry their well bred bulls and cows are being shot dead.
This week, Mack and Robyn Stagg, Tambo Crossing, were shocked to find two of their bulls’ dead, in a paddock near their house.
One of the bulls was shot in the head, the other in the shoulder; one was in the gully and one near the road.
He believes the shooting happened late Saturday.
The two Hazeldean Angus bulls were in the prime of their working lives.
One was bought in September last year, at the Hazeldean bull sale, for $7000.
“We’ve lost more than the bulls, we’ve lost the value in our breeding program,” Mr Stagg said.
“You go to a lot of trouble getting the bulls you want and this kind of thing happens.”
It is the second time ‘this kind of thing’ has happened – a bull was shot on their property in 2005.
Ensay’s Bluey Commins found one of his Hereford breeding cows shot dead earlier this year and has found cows and calves that have been driven into and over, on his leased country at Nunniong.
He was unable to account for two cows, which he suspected were killed and taken away for butchering.
Bindi’s Simon Turner has also had a cow, with a calf-at-foot, shot in recent years.
There have also been reports of cattle shot in the Bruthen district. It is the second time a dairyfarmer at Wiseleigh has found cattle shot illegally on his farm.
Police are investigating the stock killings.
