AFTER previously selling bulls privately out of the paddock, John, Beverley and Andrew McIntyre, Chateau Limousin, decided to take their bulls to auction to "try out something different and alleviate the workload" and saw a great result for their inaugural sale on Monday.
The sale reached a top of $10,000, averaged $4722 and cleared 27 of the 31 bulls on offer, with an additional two selling directly after the sale.
The top price, lot 20, a homozygous polled and black bull weighing in at 786 kilograms, was sold for $10,000 to Bob Andrews, Londrigan Beef & Lamb.
Mr Andrews purchased nine other bulls, including the second-top-priced lot 17 for $9500, reaching an average of $5500 across the 10.
"I came here because of the quality," Mr Andrews said.
"I've watched a lot of these bulls grow up."
Mr Andrews said he was looking mainly to purchase polled and black bulls but when the opportunity arose for some of the apricot bulls, he decided to secure them too.
"The colour doesn't change the taste of the meat," Mr Andrews said.
Stud co-principal Andrew McIntyre said he was "extremely happy" with the sale result, with a good mix of new and returning clients and a number of buyers travelling great distances.
GTSM auctioneer Michael Glasser said he was pleased with the sale
