Applications for the 2015 Greenham dairy scholarship have re-opened and will close on Friday March 27.
The $12,000 scholarship can be used to fund studies in any field that ultimately provide benefit to the dairy industry.
Young people starting out in the dairy industry – and those already under way in their farming careers – have again been offered the chance to give a major boost to their knowledge and skills.
HW Greenham & Sons executive chairman Peter Greenham urged farmers with eligible family members or employees to encourage their participation.
He said previous winners had found with the support of the scholarship, they had had less financial pressure and had been able to achieve better results.
"Some winners have also applied the funds to overseas study that wouldn't have otherwise been possible," Mr Greenham said.
He said an independent judging panel would assess the applications and choose a winner. He expected the announcement to be made around the end of April.
Past winners of the Greenham Dairy Scholarship have pursued their interests in large herd veterinary issues, soil and pasture management, business and environmental management, animal sciences, breeding excellence and dairy technology.
Dr Ash Phipps, the 2014 winner, said he was grateful for the scholarship as he was moving into his final year of the dairy cattle medicine residency and at the point of completing all of his in-field clinical research on dairy farms.
“Without the scholarship I did not have the funding for the project was therefore would not have been able to complete the research,” Dr Phipps said.
The scholarship is awarded on criteria including:
• How the applicant will use the money to improve their skills and knowledge
• The scholarship’s importance in helping realise their life ambitions
• Potential benefits to the dairy industry or farm enterprise and
• Previous academic, industry and/or personal achievements.
The winner will be selected by an independent panel, comprising representatives from education, community and the dairy industry.
