VICTORIAN stud Spencer Family Shorthorns, Yuroke, have won their first interbreed sash at the Sydney Royal Show after 30 years of exhibiting at the event.
Barvon Mulenor Patent H224 was named 2014 RAS Supreme Beef Interbreed Heifer on Monday after being named supreme Shorthorn exhibit last Friday.
Mulenor Patent also came equal third in the judging of the supreme female for the Urquhart trophy, and was the only junior female to be put into the top five.
Principals David and Marion Spencer acquired the heifer from Barrie and Evon Crotty, Barvon Shorthorns, Mulwala, as a 10 month old.
Affectionately known as “Mully”, the champion heifer was 19 months old and by the same sire as the Spencer’s supreme interbreed exhibit of the Melbourne Royal in 2013, Sprys Patent Fancy Pants.
“We’ve been coming to Sydney for 30 years and to win an interbreed here is phenomenal,” Mr Spencer said.
“The success makes it all worthwhile, but we would come anyway because we have an emotional attachment to the week up here.”
Judge Tom Baker, Woonallee Simmentals, Furner, South Australia, said the Shorthorn heifer impressed him by being a power female.
“You really appreciate the outlook she’s got, the front end extension, she blends well into the shoulder and has tremendous depth of body,” he said.
