A TOTAL of 4730 head of cattle were penned at Roma's store sale on Tuesday.

Local rainfall slowed the flow of cattle into the store sale and prices improved for heavy weight steers.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 228c/kg and averaged 200c, while weaner steers in the 220kg-280kg range reached 195c and averaged 174c.

Steers 280kg-350kg range reached 194c and averaged 166c, and steers 350kg-400kg range reached 190c and averaged 172c. Feeder steers 400kg-550kg range topped at 179c and averaged 168c.

S Kidman and Co, Glengyle Station, Birdsville, sold 150kg Santa steers for 228c to make $342/head. Gingie Pastoral Co, Oak Park, Charleville, sold 286kg Brangus steers to 194c/$556. The Hamilton family, Denton, Longreach, sold 371kg Charbray steers to make 190c/$705 and 397kg Charbray heifers to 171c/$680. Huckitta Enterprise, Huckitta, Alice Springs, Northern Territory, sold to 183c and averaged 397kg to return 178c/$705. The Jones family, Yuleba, sold 377kg Brangus-cross steers to 180c/$680.

The Coomber family, Jireh Park, Roma, sold 374kg Angus-cross steers for 179c/$670. The Ladbrook family, El Dorado, Roma, sold 363kg Murray Grey steers to 178c/$647. The Nobbies Grazing Co, The Nobbies Station, Cloncurry, sold 427kg Droughtmaster steers to 175c/$748. The Smith family, Hammond Downs, Windorah, sold 410kg Brahman-cross steers to 175c/$719. The Jones family, Glenlyon, Richmond, sold 522kg Brahman steers to 171c/$895. The Brown family, Cloncurry, sold 381kg Droughtmaster steers to return 170c/$649.

Heifers in the 350kg-450kg range reached 171c and averaged 151c. Heifers 280kg-350kg range topped at 178c and averaged 151c. Heifers 220kg-280kg range topped at 184c and averaged 166c, while heifers under 220kg topped at 202c and averaged 182c.

S Kidman and Co, Naryilco Station, Tibooburra, sold 131kg Santa heifers to make 202c/$266. Duthie Park Grazing Co, Blackall, sold 298kg Santa heifers to 178c/$531.

Cows over 500kg hit 157c and averaged 150c, while cows 400kg-500kg topped at 148c and averaged 135c/kg. Cows 300kg-400kg range sold to 132c and averaged 127c.

Tumbar Grazing Co, Jericho, sold 485kg Angus cows to 147c/$713. Cows and calves sold to $900/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 158c and averaged 141c.
