FOLLOWING a horrific fall off his horse last year, Mark Jacobs (pictured) of Dreeite South is back in the saddle and ready to offer 250 quality Angus steers and heifers during the State's weaner sales extravaganza, which kicks off in early January.
Agents and producers are preparing to sell more than 70,000 beef weaners across seven Victorian livestock selling centres in the first month of 2015.
It has been a tough second half to the year, with stock being sold in parts of western Victoria, and some parts of the North East, due to a failed spring and drought conditions.
Mark and his wife Leah will be offering their weaned calves at Colac's two-day weaner sale, with steers selling on Monday, January 12, and females on Monday, January 19.
The Jacobs' regularly offer some of the most sought-after cattle in the feature sale, which they put down to sound genetics.
Their weaned consignment includes 170 steers and 80 heifers. The draft is April-May 2014-drop, with predominantly Basin bloodlines and Roseleigh genetics. The calves are expected to tip the scales at an average of 400 kilograms.
"The cattle have done really well considering we had no spring rain," Mr Jacobs said.
"We breed them for body, depth, muscle and early maturity – I guess you could say our weaners have become known at the sales."
