Organisers hailed a success, the inaugural Gippsland Limousin female production sale held at Pakenham last Thursday and said it would now become an annual event.
All lots were sold and stock travelled to properties as far afield at Scone, NSW.
There were a large number of buyers from across Victoria and interstate, with competitive bidding for the heifers, cows and calves and embryos put up by nine vendors.
John and Damian Britt, Lillico Glen Limousin Stud, Warragul paid top price of $4500 for lot 26, a PTIC cow & bull calf.
The vendor was Gavan Budge, Limousdale, Yallourn North.
Mr Britt said he bought a bull - out of the cow - and was pleased with his performance, so he was keen to buy her and the bull calf-at-foot.
The Britt's also bought lot 27, a PTIC cow with heifer calf, paying $3750; the cow was a daughter out of lot 26.
Both were put into the sale by Limousdale.
They also purchased lot one, a cow & bull calf for $3000, vendor Mark & Deb Reynolds, Billy Creek; and lots eight and nine, PTIC cows from Alan & Liz Griffin, Sharoy Park.
There were three bulk buyers – the Britt family, Clyde's Frank Sofra and noted West Gippsland breeders Bernie and Lyall Seebeck.
Mr Sofra bought four head and the Seebeck brothers bought 15 Limousins.
Lot 13, a polled heifer bred by Alan Liz Griffin, Sharoy Park, was bought by Mark Watts, Scone NSW.
Mark Reynolds, Gippsland and Southern Limousin Breeders Group, said the sale was very successful, with full clearance, and the nine vendors were pleased with the competition. Vendors were from Gippsland, the Otways and Daylesford.
Mr Reynolds said it was a good indication that the sale would become an annual event at Pakenham.
Rochester’s Tony Hooppell, Nevens & Co, was one of a number of disappointed bidders. Mr Hooppell went home empty-handed.
