AN aptly coloured ‘blue’ heifer was the star attraction at the 12th annual Southern Charolais Breeders Group sale at Whittlesea today (Wednesday March 5).
Waterford Wildflower donned a dyed blue coat to be auctioned off with all proceeds being donated to the beyondblue charity.
Anne Abbott of Mt William Charolais, Willaura, was the winning bidder of the stylish 15-month old female, taking her home at $4000.
Waterford Charolais’ Deborah and Sapphire Halliday donated the heifer’s proceeds, and also sold the top priced lot of the sale.
Waterford Hobart was purchased by Don McMillan, Rodwells Sale, for a Gippsland client at $5000.
The 18-month-old sire was by Waterford Espionage and weighed in at 870 kilograms with an eye muscle area (EMA) scan of 132 square centimetres.
Overall, the sale saw 21 of 38 Charolais bulls sold to a top of $5000 and average $3369, while eight of the 11 females reached $4250 and av $3062.
Airlie Pussycat F616E achieved the highest female price, offered by the McLachlan Group’s Airlie Charolais.
The rising four-year-old female had a polled five-month-old heifer calf-at-foot by Airlie Daligite and was joined to SVY Pilgrim.
