TAMBO Angus co-principal Mandy Dean welcomed last Wednesday's clearance of bulls, that saw nine of 10 sires sold to a top price of $4500, average $3278.
"We're very happy with the sale," Ms Dean said.
"Only one bull was passed in and that'll sell. The price was up a little bit."
Kevin and Mandy Dean favour the Ardrossan-bloodline to breed the bulls they sell.
"We've just bought another two young Ardrossan-bloodline bulls," she said.
"We like their structure, look of the bull and their ability to work."
Top-priced purchasers Jim and Sue Gray, Ensay, were first time buyers of Tambo Angus bulls.
They bought lot 7, Dean J310, May 2013-drop and out of Ardrossan Connection D92 joined to Dean Y306.
Solid Estimated Breeding Values (EBV) attracted them to the bull, along with the look of the animal, who displayed low birth weight (BW) values of +3.3 and has scrotal circumference of 39 centimetres.
"We wanted a low birthweight bull to put him over Hereford heifers," Ms Gray said, whose Hereford herd is predominantly Newcomen-bloodline
"Mr Dean's bulls are noted for their quiet demeanour, which attracted me to them."
While there were plenty of high country buyers among the successful bidders, lot 1, Dean J314 was bought by South Gippsland's Ross Rigano, Leongatha, for $4000.
Lot 1 was May 2013-drop, by Ardrossan Infinity F52 and dam Dean E903, with EBVs of VW +5.9 and scrotal 38cm.
The Tambo Angus bull sale was held at Nunniong Herefords stud, Ensay.
