THE future of the Angus breed looks bright after another successful Angus Youth Roundup.
The three-and-a-half day camp at the Wodonga Exhibition Centre saw 152 entrants, aged 8 to 25, come from across Australia and even one from New Zealand.
Sessions run by industry experts were offered to the participants about animal safety, veterinary science, cattle assessment, meat quality and careers within the industry.
Halter making and buddy time were highlights for the younger age groups.
Once again the Victorian competitors performed well, with Lachlan Collins, Tennyson, winning senior champion parader and grand champion parader, Aimee Bolton, Congupna, winning reserve champion intermediate parader, while Ruby Canning, Mortlake, took out reserve champion sub-intermediate parader.
Champion junior parader was awarded to Olivia Bolton, Congupna, while Tiffany McLauchlan, Mortlake, was awarded the junior champion herdsperson.
This year the Angus Youth Roundup also made a special tribute to the late Phillip Hughes, better known as 'Hughesy'.
'Hughesy' was an Australian cricketer and a passionate Angus breeder with his own stud being Four O Eight Angus.
The Roundup's major fundraising event, the Special Dinner Dance, was also a major success with the 300 people in attendance raising $21,000 through an auction of donated products.
The money raised will go towards funding next year's camp.
The 2016 camp will be held on January 14-17 with the location yet to be determined.
