Alister Purbrick from Nagambie will be recognised at the prestigious Parade of Champions at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The Parade of Champions has been a showstopper with the crowds and is in its third year.
It takes place on Excellence in Agriculture Day, and celebrates members of the Show family for their outstanding contributions to the Show over the years.
Tahbilk is Victoria’s oldest family owned winery, producing award winning wines since 1925.
Alister, who comes from long line of excellent wine makers, has been entering Tahbilk wines in the Sydney Royal Wine Show since 1970.
And in order to share his passion and knowledge of wine with the public, he joined the Wine Show judging panel five years ago.
In 2013, Tahbilk was awarded the prestigious President’s Medal.
The President’s Medal recognises Australian producers for their profitability, sustainability and high-quality produce.
Alister said winning President’s Medal was certainly his greatest Show achievement and he looks forward to the competition again this year.
President of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, Glenn Dudley, said the champions are the heart and soul of the Show.
“Each year, our exhibitors, committee members and volunteers travel hundreds of kilometres and dedicate countless hours, helping to shape what has become an iconic, Australian event,” he said.
“Their passion shines through, allowing us to bring country and city together to enjoy the very best that rural and regional Australia has to offer, from food and fibre to culture and community.
“At the 2014 Show, more than 28,000 entries will compete in more than 5,000 competition classes as diverse as livestock, horticulture, art and woodchop – all vying for the chance to take home a coveted Sydney Royal ribbon.
“The Parade honours the people behind the ribbons; those who’ve been integral in showcasing excellence in NSW and Australian agriculture over some of the Show’s 191 year history.
“This year, we encourage you to put on your favourite hat, get behind your region and your Champion and join us at the Show from 10-23 April. It’s a chance to celebrate the country in the city and let your senses run wild.”
