FIRST-time buyers, GA Varco & Elgin Pastoral of Millicent, South Australia, took home the $4200 top-priced ram at the successful Hannaton ram sale at Kaniva last Monday.
The Merino ram, lot 2, was sired by Hannaton 100124 and grand-sired of Hannaton Fezik.
Hannaton stud principals Peter and Jono Hicks were extremely pleased to see the ram go to a new client.
"We are pleased with the overall result of the day," they said. "We had three new clients make purchases in the sale, along with many return buyers - a solid clearance was achieved."
Second highest-price for the sale was $3200 paid for lot 1 - a son of the same sire Hannaton 100124. The ram had an outstanding greasy fleece weight of 161 per cent and was purchased by local producers BH, WM&JH Meyer of Kaniva.
The volume of buyers of the sale were return client Glenera Pastoral Co, Horsham, securing seven rams to a top price of $3000. Overall, Elders Horsham sold 87 of 99 rams on behalf of Hannaton, averaging $1464 - a $126 increase on the 2013 sale.
