The annual National Cutting Horse Association’s Victorian Futurity was held during five days last week at Tatura Park, Tatura and showed some of the best cutting action seen in the country.
The shining star of the show was Queensland’s Todd Graham as he swept clean all-aged events including the Open Futurity on Driving Miss Dreamer with a score of 147, Open Classic Challenge on Winderadeen MS Short Cat on a 150 and tied for first place in the Open Derby on Blinham Ellie Again with Heath Sinclair, also of Queensland, riding One Sweet Cherry on 146.
Graham also took out the Open Cutting event for established cutting horses on Winderadeen MS Shorty Cat with a score of 147. Reserve champ in this event went to Teresa Russo’s legendary sire One Roan Peptos also ridden by Heath Sinclair.
Barraba local Amelia Tonkin worked a treat as she took out the Non Pro Futurity on her chestnut stallion World Series Cat with a 143.5. Tonkin backed herself up in the Non Pro Derby to gain first on RBH Acres of Rey on 144 and second on Hellreycious with a 143, while Kim Campbell of Tabletop NSW caught first place in the Non Pro Classic Challenge on her horse Who’s Moonshine with the top score of 145.
The Ladies Pink Cutting showcased a mighty field of 45 lovely ladies all raising money for breast cancer with Barraba’s Kerry Ann Tonkin reining supreme on her personally owned bay gelding Tramps Destiny with a score of 146. Everyone joined in on the fun showing their support by donning pink.
Other events included the Non Pro Cutting with Lacey Elliott coming in first on Winderadeen Alil Shortnin on 147, the $5000 Non Pro with Scott Codey and More Than Reddy in first on 143, the Snafflebit event for beginners with Leigh Hurley and H Bar Accidental Acres on 142 coming top place, Wyatt Gray on Purple Reyn taking out the Junior Youth on 146 and Rose Wellesley on Rhythmic Roc taking Senior Youth champ on 144.
