More residents in Wannon, an electoral division in south-west Victoria will have access super-fast broadband with the announcement that construction has started in Balmoral, Macarthur and Simpson on fixed wireless towers.
NBN Co’s announcement shows the Coalition Government is delivering on its pledge to give people with the worst services access to broadband sooner with these three new sites adding to the 27 under construction and four already operational in Wannon, Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, said.
The fixed wireless network will utilise advanced 4G technology to deliver speeds of up to 25 megabits per second, which will enable multiple high definition videos to be streamed at one time.
“Since the election, the fixed wireless network has more than doubled the number of premises it passes, with more than 89,000 homes and business in rural Australia passed by the network,” Mr Tehan.
“The Coalition will invest up to $1.2 billion more than previously planned by the former Labor Government in rural Australia to ensure the satellite and fixed wireless networks are able to cope with demand.
“The rollout is happening much faster since the Coalition Government took office and trials have started to test other technologies which will dramatically lower the cost and time it will take to deliver fast broadband to all Australians.
By prioritising areas with the worst broadband services under NBN Co’s new rollout strategy, many people in Wannon will finally get the same broadband speeds as those in the city, Mr Tehan said.
