REPRESENTATIVES of the mushroom, mango and onion growing industries will rally in Tasmania, on Thursday, against an independent Senator's push to vote down the agriculture levy system.
Independent NSW Liberal Democrat Senator David Leyonhjelm has flagged moving a disallowance motion, to strike out the levies.
Onions Australia chief executive Lechelle Earl said representatives of the three industries, growers and politicians were expected to take part in the rally, at Premium Fresh, Forth, near Devonport.
"He is putting at risk the whole future of Australian agriculture and horticulture and putting at risk research and development opportunities for the future," Ms Earl said.
"There are huge ramifications for Tasmania."
Ms Earl called on independent senators to join the Liberal and Labor parties in opposing the motion.
"In the onion sector, we raise about half a million dollars and the majority gets parked back on farms, in research and development projects," Ms Earle said.
The rally will take place at 10:30am, at 199 Forthside Road, Forth.
