EUROA saleyards celebrated the lower northeast region’s end of financial year clearance of store cattle on Wednesday with one of their most successful sales ever seen.
Bidding consistently topped 300cents per kilogram live weight and up to 340c/kg lwt for grown and weaner steers with a dozen or more lots sold on bids between $1000 to a top of $1460 a head.
The top priced yard of mixed vendors’ grown steers equalled 320kg.
The pen of 13 Angus weighed at 455kg was cleared to South Australian processor, Thomas Foods International.
Rates during the early parts of the market were viewed as being $150 above the previous Euroa store market held three weeks earlier while the remainder of the steer market was seen as $50- $80 a head stronger.
Feeders and restockers from northeast, Western Victoria, South Australia and northern NSW propelled prices throughout the steer market with most pen lots reflecting the tough start to the season.

Northeast commission buyer Duncan Brown was a dominant bidder securing multiply loads for a variety of orders with a largest portion destined for northern NSW where pasture growth is said to be the best in several years.
The market for unjoined heifers began with a bang and continued at high-speed rates until its conclusion.
A pen of 450kg Angus secured the heifer top of $1300 a head which equated to 288c/kg lwt.
The pen of 10 was sold by Kinjo Holdings while most sales of weaner heifers made $600-$900 and a handful of heavier yearling-off heifers cleared to processors at $990-$1100 a head.
Heifer rates were also estimated to be $100 to $150 dearer than Euroa’s previous market as sale estimates climbed to 240-280c/kg lwt with a load of the lightest drafts trucked to the central tableland of NSW.
